A Joshua Grayson Sequel, Perhaps?
After the Shadow Over The Heartland publication, I've taken some time to determine what my next writing adventure would be. Another novel, what would that be, focus on short stories, poetry, essays, a play, memoirs, a diary, or a screenplay? I considered and started on a literary novel based in New York in the early 1900's. That was a time when my family came to the U.S. My father passed away in 2019. He had done much genealogy work, and I decided to build that into a story.
When I asked family and friends, I asked them what they would prefer. I gave them several options. The "voting" was a decisive vote for a Joshua Grayson sequel. So I started on the next sequel and, after some time, tried to plot the storyline. I forgot how challenging it can be! But I'm on the right track. This time, I'll be able to finish it way ahead of the prior book (8 years while I worked and finished it mid-year last year after I retired - specifically to write and have freedom!).
Any thoughts about the new novel are very much welcome! You'll be noted in the acknowledgments in the final novel and, if it's a "killer idea," the new book once it's out.
As I move forward, I'll provide a high-level overview and/or a scene or two for you to wet your whistle. (To "wet your whistle," meaning "to take a drink," dates back to at least 1386, but it never referred to an actual whistle. In this case, to drink in the words? Oh well.)
Hope you're all well and enjoying the spring… stay in touch!
Cheers!
Tom
