Woodstock

In Mid-September I was invited to a book club to discuss my novel, “Shadow Over The Heartland.” It was held in quant Woodstock, Illinois, tucked in the area of north-east close to Wisconsin. I lived in Illinois for third years,  twenty-nine miles north of my home (fifty-one miles from Chicago), but I never made it there. My loss.

The bookstore, “Read Between the Lynes, was in the historic downtown with a turn of the of century town square which also included an Opera House and the Old McHenry County Courthouse. I found out that the town has been in a couple big movies, being: Planes Trains & Automobiles (1987), and Groundhog Day (1993). I digged a little deeper and found that in the early parts of the 20th Century it was home to Emerson Typewriter and Oliver Typewriter. Those two countries built more than one-half of the world’s typewriters by 1922. Too many times I don’t take the time to appreciate…I have to slow down.

I walked into the bookstore: and found myself surrounded in a large circle in a Book Club in beautiful Woodstock, Illinois. Let me tell you – they were ready to ask questions, Machine Gun style! Lucky I had my buddy and Fraternity Brother Dave beside me to jump in if needed. We also had some discussion around the Joshua Grayson next sequel, which is currently in process.

I’m exaggerating (a bit), it was a fun time, the book store was wonderful as well as the group. All in all it went too quickly. Dave and I sat on a bench to debrief and catch up in the middle of the square in a sunny day. All in all a great experience. I hope I get an invite for the next novel!

Cheers!

Tom
